You do not need to arrive as a rider

A beginner introduction is designed for people who are curious about polo, not people who already know the game. Ernie reviews each rider’s experience and goals before confirming the session so the 90 minutes can begin at the right level.

If you have riding experience, that helps him decide where to focus. If you have none, that is useful information too—not a reason to stay home.

What happens during the 90 minutes

The exact lesson adapts to the rider, horse, and conditions. A first experience generally moves through a simple sequence:

  • Meet the horse and understand the basic equipment.
  • Get comfortable with the controls and your position in the saddle.
  • Learn how riding, balance, timing, and the mallet fit together.
  • Finish with a clearer sense of whether polo belongs in your life.

What Centaur Polo provides

For a beginner polo introduction, the horse, tack, mallet, and instruction are included. Bring an approved riding helmet for your session.

What you should bring

  • Long pants that let you move comfortably.
  • Closed-toe shoes or boots with a defined heel.
  • Water and clothing appropriate for the day’s weather.
  • A willingness to learn without needing to impress anyone.

Getting to Acton

Centaur Polo teaches in Acton, south of Palmdale and east of Santa Clarita along the State Route 14 corridor. It is a natural fit for riders coming from the Santa Clarita Valley, Palmdale, and surrounding Antelope Valley communities. Because the horse parcel does not have a formal public address, exact directions are shared privately after a lesson is confirmed.

Start with a Saturday or Sunday 11:00 AM session. Request at least 48 hours ahead; the spot is not confirmed until Ernie confirms availability and rider fit. Other times can be arranged by phone.

The simple takeaway

The first 90 minutes are not a performance. They are a chance to meet the horse, learn the first movement, and replace curiosity with real experience.
