Start with the heel

Wear a closed-toe shoe or boot with a defined heel. The heel helps reduce the chance of your foot sliding too far through the stirrup.

The shoe should stay secure on your foot and have a reasonably smooth sole. Avoid sandals, open-toe shoes, smooth flat sneakers, wedges, platforms, and high fashion heels.

Wear long pants

Choose comfortable long pants that let you bend your knees and move freely. Jeans or other fitted, flexible pants are a practical first option. Avoid shorts and very loose fabric that can bunch, flap, or catch.

Dress for Acton, not for a photo

Check the weather before leaving. A light layer can help on a cool morning; breathable clothing and water matter on a warm afternoon. Skip dangling jewelry and secure long hair before riding.

Bring an approved riding helmet

Bring an approved, properly fitted riding helmet for your polo session. If you are unsure whether your helmet is suitable, confirm with Ernie before your visit.

Still unsure about your shoes?

Reply to a Centaur Polo email or send a clear photo by direct message to @centaur_polo before your lesson. It is easier to check one pair in advance than guess on arrival.

The simple takeaway

An approved riding helmet, long pants, a secure closed-toe shoe with a defined heel, and weather-appropriate layers cover the essentials for a first polo session.
